An unusual murder attempt involving a rubber hose that was supposed to feed poison gas under the front door of an Oceanside home failed Tuesday morning when the intended victim called paramedics, police said.
Robert R. Robb, 25, of Ponderosa Drive was not hurt, but police arrested him after finding a small methamphetamine lab and a few marijuana plants in the home.
Robb called Oceanside paramedics to the home about 5:25 a.m., complaining of nausea and dizziness, according to Oceanside police spokesman Bob George.
Beside the front door, police found a cylinder of hydrogen chloride, which is poisonous when inhaled, George said.
A note “directing the attack at Robb” was found attached to the hose, George said. He would not say what the message on the note was.
“It’s a new one to me, and I’ve been an officer 16 years,” George said of the murder attempt.
Robb was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of marijuana and drug manufacturing, George said.
