A British horse breeder has denied acting in bad faith by taking about $15,000 from the Church of England after promising that he could get information about missing church envoy Terry Waite. “Who’d be a con man for 10,000 (pounds), I ask you? It’s crazy,” Charles Armstrong said in a London television interview. The church has said it paid $21,600 to Armstrong and John Entwhistle, who is now in jail for illegally exporting computer equipment, to cover the pair’s travel and other expenses. Waite disappeared in Beirut last January while trying to negotiate the release of Western hostages in Lebanon.
