U.S. Tornado Death Toll Quadrupled in ’87 to 59

WASHINGTON — Deaths attributed to tornadoes increased to 59 in the United States last year, nearly quadruple the toll of 15 a year earlier, the National Weather Service reported Thursday. Texas suffered the most from tornadoes in 1987, with 42 fatalities in that state.
