College Basketball : Valley Keeps SCC Record Intact With an 88-81 Win

Valley College remained unbeaten in Southern California Conference play with an 88-81 win over Cerro Coso on Friday night at Valley.
Steve Ward led the Monarchs (7-14, 4-0 in conference play) with a game-high 33 points and David Weiss added 24 points and 9 rebounds. Oral Elrington grabbed 13 rebounds for Valley.
The win was Valley’s second over Cerro Coso (0-4 in conference play) this season. The first was an 80-60 win in the Antelope Valley tournament in December.
Grand Canyon 89, The Master’s 67--Six players scored in double figures for Grand Canyon in the nonconference game at Master’s. Denl Williams led Grand Canyon (20-3) with 14 points and Robert Enge added 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Phil Hahn led Master’s (7-10) with 18 points.
WOMEN
Valley 70, Trade Tech 52--Dametra Johnson (19 points) was one of four players to score in double figures for Valley (18-2, 4-0) in the Southern California Conference game at Trade Tech (10-6, 1-2).
Ruth Aguilar added 15 points for Valley. Traci Atkins scored 14 points and had 9 assists and teammate Bernadette Tillis added 14 points and 12 rebounds for Valley.
