Japan’s Shimizu Wins Ski Jump

SAPPORO, Japan — Sadao Shimizu and Shinichi Tanaka of Japan took first and second place, ahead of Austria’s Paul Erat, in the STV-Cup international ski jump competition Sunday.
Shimizu recorded the day’s longest jump of 112 meters in his second attempt after jumping 99.5 meters for a 195.1-point total to win the title.
Tanaka made jumps of 103.5 and 108.0 meters for 193.1 points, placing second at Okurayama Hill.
Reed Zuenlke of the United States came in 16th after jumping 96 and 99.5 meters for 166.2 points, while countryman Larry Olsen placed 39th with jumps of 87 and 87.5 meters for 123.3 points.
Competing were 74 participants from seven countries.
