Murder Charges in 27 Bus Deaths

CARROLLTON, Ky. — Authorities today filed 27 counts of capital murder against the driver of a pickup truck after a blood alcohol test revealed that he was drunk when his pickup truck slammed into a church bus, killing 27 people. (Story on Page 13.)
Commonwealth’s Atty. John Ackman said he filed the charges against Larry Mahoney, 34, of Worthville, Ky., after the test revealed that his blood alcohol level was .24. In Kentucky, .10 is considered legally drunk.
