Nolan Ryan Deserves Place in Hall of Fame
- Share via
Richard Blue of Hollywood hits new lows in his letter (Viewpoint, May 7) belittling the accomplishments of the great Nolan Ryan.
If Ryan doesn’t get into the Hall of Fame on his first year of eligibility, someone should check the voters to see if Blue has paid them off. Nolan Ryan has completely rewritten the record books for strikeouts and no-hitters. He is the career strikeout leader for two teams, and he probably will lead them both in wins by the time he retires--if he ever does.
The only flaws in Ryan’s career have been walks and a so-so won-lost record. Whether Blue cares to admit it or not, Ryan played for some awful teams in Anaheim.
Only the most dominating players of an era should make the Hall of Fame (are you listening, all you Don Sutton, Gaylord Perry and Phil Niekro supporters?), and if Nolan Ryan doesn’t fit that description, I don’t know who does. I’ll see Mr. Blue in Cooperstown.
