A man suspected of being the so-called “Hillcrest Bandit,” who has robbed 25 banks in the past year, was arrested Wednesday, the FBI reported.
Craig Randolph Pearson, 27, a transient, was arrested at about 2 p.m. in the South Bay following two days of surveillance, FBI spokesman James Bolenbach said.
The FBI believes Pearson is responsible for as many as 25 bank robberies in Hillcrest, Chula Vista and National City that netted a total of $24,000. Pearson is also a suspect in the May 25 robbery of a Great American First Savings branch in National City, Bolenbach said.
Pearson was booked into the Metropolitan Correctional Center and will be arraigned today in federal court.
