The city of Pittsburgh dropped a lawsuit against Beazer PLC’s planned $1.7-billion takeover of Koppers Co. in return for an agreement that city officials say will help retain 1,500 Koppers jobs in the area. Beazer agreed to a settlement after private talks with Mayor Sophie Masloff. The company said it would accept within 45 days any reasonable offer by Pittsburgh-based managers to buy Koppers’ chemical and allied products divisions and to meet regularly with city and Allegheny County officials to keep them informed about the status of the sale.
