A 50-foot power boat sank about 14 miles off San Clemente Island. All eight people aboard were rescued by the Coast Guard and the Navy. The Real Deal, a chartered scuba-diving boat out of San Diego, began taking water and sank about 5:40 a.m., apparently after hitting a submerged object, Coast Guard Chief Dennis Lawson said. A helicopter dispatched by the Coast Guard picked up four survivors, and a Navy helicopter plucked the other four from the sea, he said. There were no injuries. Lawson said the boat had left San Diego late Saturday night and was on its way out for a scuba-diving expedition when the accident occurred.
