High Fees Questioned
Roger Werbel of the California Building Industry Assn. claims that developer impact fees exceed $11,000 per home (Dick Turpin’s column May 29).
I would like to know what areas of California levy fees as large as $11,000 per conventional tract home and what percentage of homes built in the last year were affected by fees this high or higher. I would also like to know the extent to which these fees exceed the reasonable cost of providing public facilities needed by the new developments but not needed for the residents of existing homes.
Honest reporting of this issue--an issue of concern in communities throughout California--would address these points, rather than merely providing a soapbox for the CBIA.
