Local News in Brief : Cycling Ban Proposed
- Share via
The Los Angeles City Council is being asked to establish its first ban on skateboarding and bicycling.
In response to complaints from some elderly residents of San Pedro that they feel threatened by aggressive riders, City Councilwoman Joan Milke Flores has proposed that the sidewalks in a small section of that community’s downtown business district be off limits to skateboarders and cyclists.
Although other nearby cities ban the activities in certain areas, there is nothing in the Los Angeles Municipal Code that outlaws bicycle or skateboard riding, either generally or in a specific area, according to city analyst Richard McCaughey.
