Local News in Brief : RTD to Continue Routes
- Share via
The RTD announced Thursday that it will continue to provide service after July 1 on two of its freeway express lines into downtown Los Angeles--Route 495 from Diamond Bar and Route 498 from Glendora.
The fate of the lines, which carry about 1,400 commuters each weekday, had been in question after a Superior Court judge last week temporarily blocked funding of a new San Gabriel Valley transit system--known as Foothill Transit--that was scheduled to take over the routes.
Judge Eli Chernow ruled that the pioneering transit system, which would use private bus companies and be governed by local public officials, could not be legally created without the RTD’s consent. Foothill Transit was scheduled to take over about 20 RTD routes eventually.
