Dataproducts Corp. earned $810,000, or 4 cents a share, in the first quarter that ended June 25, more than double the $335,000, or 2 cents a share, earned a year earlier. Revenue rose 10% to $85.5 million.
Interest income for the Woodland Hills maker of computer printers increased to $713,000 in the period, from $192,000 a year earlier.
Dataproducts said an increasingly larger share of its revenue involves the sale of new products, which initially cost more to make than older products. The company said its costs should fall in the second half of its fiscal year, when it finishes moving a printer plant from New Hampshire to Woodland Hills.
