East German Trains Collide, Killing Three

FRANKFURT AM ODER, East Germany — Two East German soldiers and a train engineer were killed Sunday when a locomotive collided with a freight train carrying military equipment, the official East German news agency ADN reported.
The second engineer and three soldiers were injured and taken to a hospital, ADN added.
The collision knocked both locomotives off the tracks and one of them burst into flames. Six of the freight train’s eight cars were overturned. The cause was not immediately determined, ADN said.
