State Betting System Might Be Off Track

Wayne Lukas won his sixth Del Mar Debutante in seven years (with Lea Lucinda on Sept. 4). Chris Ello reported that Lukas stalked off after being asked about the poor performance of his other entrant, One of a Klein, who was highly favored by the bettors.
Not reported is the questionable practice in which horses with the same trainer are allowed to race uncoupled in the wagering.
It is time for the California Horse Racing Board to conform to the standards of other states, such as New York, in which all entrants with a common trainer must be coupled in the wagering.
