Karen Amy May, the mother of the mute girl found in a La Jolla department store, is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon in Superior Court on charges of child abuse, neglect and abandonment, according to the San Diego County district attorney’s office.
May, 37, was arrested Saturday night in Torrance and was taken to the Las Colinas jail for women in Santee where she remained in lieu of $20,000 bail.
San Diego police spokesman Dave Cohen said Monday that child-abuse detectives were setting up a lineup for employees of the May Co. in La Jolla Village Square to see whether any of them can identify May as the woman last seen in the store Sept. 14 with 11-year-old Tanya Tegerdine.
The detectives plan to travel to Anaheim today to serve a search warrant at May’s last known address, and then to Torrance to speak with relatives, Cohen said.
