ALBANY, N.Y. — A minister who was once Jessica Hahn’s boss was indicted today on charges that he skimmed $90,000 from his Long Island church and then tried to persuade Hahn to lie to a grand jury about it.
The Rev. Eugene Profeta, 51, pleaded not guilty to taking the money and was ordered to stay away from Hahn, who was once a secretary in Profeta’s church. Hahn’s 1980 sexual encounter with the Rev. Jim Bakker led to his resignation last year from the PTL ministry. The charges allege that Profeta and his wife, Glenda, used church funds to buy life insurance and for frequent gambling junkets to Atlantic City.
