Peru’s state-owned airline, Aeroperu, denied charges that its jetliner was poorly maintained and overloaded when it crashed in the southern Andes, killing 12 and injuring 56. But Vice President Luis Alberto Sanchez called for the airline to be reorganized while other officials demanded the resignation of members of the board of directors. At the same time, the U.S. Embassy in Lima said Aeroperu mistakenly identified one of the dead, Douglas Harris, as American. Harris, a 53-year-old Briton, was an associate professor at Illinois State University, officials said.
