Michelle Obama chooses a custom Christian Siriano dress for her Democratic convention speech

For her Democratic National Convention speech in Philadelphia on July 25, First Lady Michelle Obama chose a cobalt blue custom-made dress by Christian Siriano.

Michelle Obama went as low-key as Melania Trump had gone high-style, choosing to deliver her convention speech in a cobalt-blue silk crepe A-line dress with cap sleeves.

The dress, custom-made by New York-based designer Christian Siriano, who shot to fame after winning the fourth season of “Project Runway” in 2008, fell to just below the knee and was paired with a pair of metallic heels that industry trade publication Footwear News identifies as Jimmy Choo pumps.

It was a comparatively toned-done convention look for the first lady, who opted for an elegant custom dress in a shimmery pink-and-gold brocade print (also sleeveless) by New York based Tracy Reese in 2012 and a teal sheath dress by Chicago-based designer Maria Pinto for the 2008 convention, which she accessorized with a starburst brooch.

Although the dress was custom-made for Obama, a similar-looking cobalt-blue cap-sleeve dress at the designer’s website is priced at $995 and currently is available for purchase.

By comparison, Trump delivered her Republican convention speech last week in a $2,190 pouf-sleeved ivory-colored dress by London-based designer Roksanda Ilincic.
